Clay

Demonstration:

Come into our studio and visit with us about the what and why of our work in clay. We will be demonstrating sculpting, and throwing. See the studio equipment in action and have a go at it yourself if you desire. Experience the kiln opening of a saggar firing.

Directions:

One and a half blocks north of F Street on Willow Street.

Artist Statement:

Phoebe’s sculptures utilize simple lines, carefully embodying the underlying essence of the bird, animal, face, or abstract idea. Darby is an accomplished thrower. They make their own individual artworks, and also collaborate together to create unique works of art joining their strengths. They work primarily in unglazed red clay. The demands of relying on form only, without added color, is compelling, and honest. The only embellishment they sometimes use is either a saggar firing process using greenery and flowers from the garden, or raku firings. Except for the raku fired pieces, all the artwork is strong both indoors and out. Sculptures and bird baths can reside out in the garden, while teacups live up to the rigors of daily living.

Studio open during the remainder of the year by appointment.
