Mixed Media
Demonstration:
I will be demonstrating a drawing/painting/illustration of an animal in progress showing the process, the mixed media and/or materials (acrylic, colored pencil & pastel with the addition of utilizing found objects, if applicable) and layering.
Directions:
From Port Townsend head out of town on Hwy 20. Turn left on Frederick St. and then left on Otto St. Follow the road to the bottom of the hill and turn left by the silver crocodile into the driveway. The studio is in GreyBird Barn behind the house.
Artist statement:
Studies in commercial art, design and illustration at the Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle, now known as The Seattle Art Institute, have provided me with a broad background in various disciplines and media. With drawing and painting as my grounding media, my intent is to express an aliveness using animal imagery often times with whimsy while balancing on the edge of realism and fantasy. The use of mixed media and giving new life to unusual reusable objects has offered endless influence for exploration and experimentation for creative expression. Working in an assemblage and sculpture format allows multiple layering, creating depth and a sense of intrigue. My studio sits within wooded acreage on a hilltop in Chimacum, Washington where observations of the natural world and my own sense of wonder therein give great muse and thought opportunities for new inspiration. My work is always in a state of evolution, shifting expression all the time, utilizing different materials, yet seemingly maintaining a familiar and recognizable visual narrative.
My work can be seen at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts Gallery, Bainbridge Island and Raven Blues Gallery, Poulsbo and scattered juried shows at NorthWind Art Center in Port Townsend. I will be a part of a small group show at NorthWind Art Center in September of 2010.
