Sculptural Basketry
Demonstration:
Participants will be able to see me at work soaking, scraping, and weaving a basket made of wild local cherry bark. They will be able to visually see the bark soaking, and also when it is first dry. They will see me working with many different kinds of kelp, and merge it with the basket form. I will be demonstrating all day and talking about the materials and how I use them. The studio will be filled with a variety of unique finished baskets!
Directions to studio:
Take Hwy 20 south, turn left onto Eaglemount Rd. Follow Eaglemount for 1.5 miles, and turn right on Old Eaglemount Rd. Follow Old Eaglemount for 1 mile. Driveway on right hand side, park below. You will see a small, sweet studio!!
Artist statement:
I am a local Port Townsend basket-maker that has been making sculptural baskets for the past 7 years. I work with local wild cherry bark harvested from dead fallen trees, and gently configured sea kelp. Combined the materials create eccentric and quirky baskets that have a distinct life of their own. My baskets are locally displayed in galleries throughout Washington and Oregon. I can be contacted at basketsbynature@hotmail.com.
