Patagonia Image
Demonstration:
The figurative sculptures at Takaki House represent the image and spirit of the people I have met during my career as an international environmental consultant. The Navajo Nation is represented by the women who worked with me on the Hardrock Farm Co-Op project; South American farm workers who worked to improve the banana and pineapple farming practices in their country; people from Patagonia; images from Okinawa and Guyana. Each figure is one of a kind and their story is – their life.
The Japanese pottery follows the work of a national treasure, whose studio is in Yomitan Village in Okinawa. His work and life so inspired me that I became his student and continue to strive for a high level of quality in the ceramic pieces. Each piece is hand built following the old style; the artist’s goal is to capture peace and tranquility.
Directions to studio:
1617 Washington Street is located on the bluff side of Washington Street, between the courthouse and the post office. There is parking for four cars in the drive and parking is allowed along Washington Street and on Benton, which intersects Washington close to Takaki House.
Artist statement:
“My art represents the best of humanity – in spirit, determination and in our ability to make a difference.”
