Demonstration:

Visitors to my studio will be able to see and discuss pictures representing the various types of photographic processes that I have worked in including: lith printing, solarization, photogravure, digital manipulation and simple straight forward image printing. I will have examples of all these techniques on display in the studio. These processes create quite different and remarkable images but are seldom displayed.

Directions to studio:

Take Jackman off of Hastings, just west of Discovery Road. Proceed to 29th Street. Proceed to alley on left. Studio is above garage. Enter through the lawn area to staircase to studio.

Artist statement:

I consider my work as fine art photography. By that I mean the image itself speaks alone without any commercial, intellectual or instructive implications. My references when using my camera are composition, story and mood. These elements also come into play when creating a print, which constitutes at least half of my process if not more. The subjects of my images range from architecture to nature to portraiture to figurative. I work in both chemical and digital mediums and sometimes a combination of both.

I have always been interested in photography. However, for the past eleven years photography has become a serious endeavor for me. My eyes and my instincts for creating pictures has become well -honed. I tend to concentrate on projects with a common theme. That theme might be a city like New Orleans , the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, a nude model , or portraits with a related theme.

I work in color and black and white, choosing the medium that fits the project. In 2008 I completed a portfolio of images of Victorian buildings in Port Townsend which was shown at Artisans on Taylor. I chose to do that project using chemical photography and in black and white. After shooting the pictures for the portfolio, I printed the images to look as they might have if taken during the period when the buildings were built.

Currently I am engaged in a project to create Port Townsend portraits for a book. In this case I am working in digital photography and have yet to determine whether the finished product will be in color or black and white.

My work has been shown in shows in Port Townsend, San Diego, Long Beach, California, and Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. I have pictures in the permanent collection of the Miller Museum of Art in Wisconsin. I have participated in juried art festivals in San Diego, Santa Barbara and Scottsdale, AZ.

Studio open during the remainder of the year by appointment.
