Pottery

Demonstration:

It will be a real pleasure to demonstrate both wheel thrown and hand built pottery. I have many years of teaching experience and twenty years of experience with clay. My two children (9 and 11 years old) are also productive clay artists and will be at hand. Hand built mugs are useful and fun favorite project for all ages – kids welcome- and visitors could try for themselves. Also, I will demonstrate forms thrown on the wheel and show the stages of pottery from wet to leather hard, greenware, bisque, and the finished glazed product. Currently, I have an electric kiln and I can fire and deliver/mail any mugs produced during the tour. Of course, I will have many finished pots available.

Directions to studio:

I am located at the Round House – a fairly well known landmark – at the corner of Old Fort Townsend Road and Hwy. 20. Look for the Old Fort Townsend State Park signs. From the north, turn left (east) or from the south turn right (east.) The house and studio are on the right (southeast.) The Round House is our residence and the studio is in the long shop directly past the house. Up to ten vehicles will fit in our parking area; four to six vehicles in the adjacent Pet Memorial Garden parking, as well as along the roadsides.

Artist statement:

I am driven by a strong need to create tangible things. I struggle to contain the boundaries of the materials I use. My first love is with fibers and fabrics. However, my primary media has been clay for 20 years. I labor over the forms and details. Recently, I’ve added a variety of rich colors to enhance my functional forms. The colors work to increase my interest and have proven to draw the interest of others.

Studio open during the remainder of the year
