Sandra Offutt Studio
20 Bellevue Drive
Port Townsend, WA 98368
A painting will be in progress. I’ll explain my method and materials. I’ll show how I use small plein air studies in the development of a larger painting. I’ll also show how small “still life” paintings are my practice pieces.
Take Discovery Road south from the “Port Townsend” sign (at Mill Rd and framing shop). Continue to the intersection with Cape George Road. The Discovery Bay Golf Course is at this intersection. Turn RIGHT on Cape George Road. Drive 1.6 miles on Cape George, until you come to Bellevue Drive on the left. It is a few yards after milepost “6” on Cape George. Driveway is first one on the right. Drive through the woods and PARK in the clearing between the garages. Walk down to the house and enter the double doors. Studio is upstairs on the left.
As an oil painter who does a lot of plein air work, I’m drawn to the natural world and the creatures in it. I’m based in Port Townsend, WA, but visit Greece several months each year, and this drives me to concentrate on the way light hits my subjects. Color is the wild card in my tool box. I try hard to understand how to describe the effects of light through color. It’s a never-ending pursuit, sometimes frustrating, but always challenging.
Studio is open by appointment during the remainder of the year.
