Rebekah Cadorette
Handwoven Textiles

Demonstration

At the Three Strands Studio the visitor can watch the transformation of fiber to fabric. At times we begin with fiber in its rawest form—wool, cotton, flax, or silk—and spin it into yarn for weaving.  While spinning, dying and weaving all take place at the studio, the emphasis is primarily on weaving and the exploration of color.  The result is functional garments textiles for the home that turn everyday objects into items of beauty.  A demonstration loom will be set up and available for visitors to weave upon

Statement

Trained first as a weaver of words, to find strands of metaphor and colorful synonyms to convey an emotion or picture or idea.

Trained second as a naturalist and scientist, to see pattern and complexity and the beauty of connection in systems and individuals.

Trained third as an artist, to create beauty with color and texture and pattern.  To make useful things that will also bring pleasure just by the very fact of their existence.

Ultimate goal: to make cloth so beautiful that even if it were not practical or useful (which it is), it would still give joy just by being looked at.

Directions

From Sims Way in Port Townsend, turn N on Kearney.  When Kearney T’s out, turn left onto 19th.  Take the first right onto San Juan Ave,  follow through stop sign and down and around curve to become 49th.  You will soon see the fairgrounds on your left and Jackman St. just past the grounds entrance. Turn right on Jackman.  When Jackman ends, turn left onto 57th.  Our house is third on the right, gray with a red roof.
