Demonstration
Becky Schurmann – I will edition a
print in my studio. In order to illustrate what a hand-produced, printed
image involves, I will ink and wipe an etching plate and run it through an
etching press to produce an original print that will become one of a limited
edition. I will provide examples of a print in-the-making and explain some
of the basic etching plate-making techniques. My hope is to inform my
visitors about this very old form of printmaking and share some of the
excitement of seeing a print come off the press. I will be conducting
demonstrations between 11 a.m. and 12 noon and 1 and 3 p.m. on both tour
days.
Paul Wrench – During the studio tour,
I will have works in progress on display along with finished work. I will
not be doing any demonstrations, but will do short demos on request.

Statement
Becky Schurmann – The simplest, most
accessible and profound way I have understanding myself in relationship with
the world, is through making visual images. I am drawn to very simple views
in the landscape and I tend to simplify them even more into either stark
black and white prints or lush, saturated color monotypes and drawings.
Paul Wrench – I have been drawing,
painting and making three dimensional work for over 30 years. My current
sculptures are mostly figurative with some degree of abstraction. This work
grew in part out of a project done in collaboration with Becky Schurmann,
which involved the creation of 13 life-sized sculptures for The Mill City
Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Since then I have continued to explore carving in wood and stone. I am
intrigued by the way a subtraction process encourages simplification of
form.
